Update: I added a Deals Widget to the right sidebar for the time being. I’m not sure how it chooses the items to display, but here’s hoping it can tell what readers to this blog are interested in. Currently the Transformer’s Optimus Prime example I referenced below is showing… so that’s a good sign.
I suspect most of you are like me… feeling a bit helpless as the markets plummet and concerned that you won’t be able to meet obligations like your mortgage or other bills, let alone get the kids those toys they’re begging for.
My first recommendation is to push back and be conservative right now. Pay down that high interest debt and fund those things that are really necessary, like education accounts and such.
That’s easier said than done when you’ve got a birthday around the corner and for that I recommend spending some time looking for deals online, cause they’re out there. It’s not just the consumer feeling the pinch, the retailers know that any consumer angst will quickly trickle down to all that inventory they have in the back room. The deals on children’s toys, clothing and supplies are out there, you just have to look.
Here are a few I found this afternoon without much difficulty or time invested:
Amazon quick deals / gold box deals can offer huge savings off pretty popular items. One downside is that some of these deals are VERY time sensitive occasionally only lasting for a couple hours and limited to stock on hand. That said, if you’re sitting around looking for something to do a quick check might net you some great deals on kids’ items. For example, as I write this there’s a 40% discount on a Transformer’s Optimus Prime action figure toy bringing the original price of $49.99 down to $29.99… 2% of the available stock has been claimed and 3:56:46 remaining.
Other examples today?
Discounts on Hasbro board games
Discounts are claimed to be as high as 60% and include games like Monopoly, Clue, Trivial Pursuit and many others. Could be a good opportunity to grab some cheap yet fun items to wrap for the holidays. Board games are pretty big and would add some heft for little spend under the tree (or pole or whatever).
Hefty discounts off of preschool toys as well. As for any of these sales its first come gets the quality toys, but hey, the little ones aren’t as picky so you can freshen the pile at a real discount with this one.
Hasbro toy shop is offering 20% and free shipping with the following coupon: FALL20
Not quite the deal that Amazon is offering, but perhaps a broader selection of toys.
Techbargains notes that Toys R Us 20% off purchases over $75 with the following coupon: 922600
Some items are excluded.
Anyway, I can’t promise all of these toy deals will be active when you visit, but just wanted to make a point that there are deals to be had… so stop shopping on impulse and do your due diligence!
